Disaster called -"Acid Rain"

The once brilliant-white Taj Mahal has been losing its luster, dulling into a sickly pale shade, due to acid rain.

It is a broad term referring to a dry and wet deposition from the atmosphere containing sulfuric and nitric acid. The forerunners of these deposition are natural sources like decaying vegetation and volcanoes.Man made being the emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides from the factories and automobiles. These gases when mixed with water in the atmosphere forms acid rain.

The disastrous effects of acid rain are many.
It can increase the acidity of lakes, dams and streams and cause the death of aquatic life.
Acid rain can increase the acidity of soil.
It has been linked with the death of trees in Europe and North America
It erodes buildings and monuments. Acid particles in the air are suspected of contributing to respiratory problems in people

Environmental pollution is a rapidly increasing disaster to the globe .Though no overnight solution is possible ,it has to be tackled quite soon.Hope the competent authorities will take an immediate action to arrest this threatening issue.
